VOLLEYBALL
Johnston volleyball club (JVBC) tryouts will take place in October.
JVBC is affiliated with the Johnston school volleyball program and is a great way to learn / improve on the sport before school ball begins in 8th grade!

MATHCOUNTS CLUB
Come join the MATHCOUNTS CLUB!!!
The MATHCOUNTS Foundation is a non-profit organization that reaches students in grades 6-8 in all US states and territories with 3 extra-curricular math programs. More than a quarter million students participate in MATHCOUNTS programs or use their resources each year. At Summit, students meet to solve problems and build problem solving skills. They will meet after school every-other week, on Mondays, starting the first week of October in Ms. Lewis’s room in Mission. First meeting is Oct. 3.
In January, students will begin meeting every week on Monday’s after school to get ready for 4 levels of competition. This is open to any student who enjoys problem solving with others in a competitive environment. Our school competition will be in January, a local competition in February, state in March, and then the National Competition.
The coaches are Mr. Steve Skinner and Ms. Linda Lewis. Anyone is welcome to join and there are links on the Activities and Clubs Moodle page under MATHCOUNTS.
SUMMIT CHESS CLUB
Summit Chess Club will be starting this November! Sign-ups will be sent to parents and students as well as posted around the building starting in October.

Featured Book of the Week
The Total Eclipse of Nestor Lopez tells the story of Nestor who recently moved to a new town. Once there he discovers that the town is haunted by a witch that is taking animals behind his grandma’s house. Can Nestor solve the mystery using his special skill of being able to talk to animals?
