SONIA KOVALEVSKY GIRLS MATH DAY

The Iowa State University Sonia Kovalevsky Girls Mathematics Day is a day to celebrate #womeninmath by showing middle school girls the kinds of careers and applications higher mathematics and science can provide.  The event is on Saturday, April 9 from 10:00am – 2:00pm at Carver Hall, Iowa State University Campus, Ames, Iowa.  Participants will engage in hands-on activities through a series of workshops on exciting math topics and will have the chance to interact with other participants, mathematics graduate and undergraduate students and mathematics professors. Events will include a keynote speaker, fun hands-on activities, lunch (provided), and small group mentoring sessions with female mathematicians where participants will learn about magic squares, zombie outbreak models, and hexaflexagons. Student families are responsible for transportation to and from the event, but lunch and a t-shirt will be provided to all attendees. The event is free, but registrations are due by Thursday, March 31, 2022 here:https://math.iastate.edu/2022/03/04/sonia-kovalevsky-mathematics-day-2022/. The event is open to female and non-binary middle school students and their teachers, both men and women.  Teachers as well as parents/guardians are welcome to join their students. If you have questions, please email us at mathoffice@iastate.edu.

GARDEN CLUB

Garden Club meeting will be on Thursday afterschool

Summit Garden Club Needs Your Help

The Summit Garden Club grew over 600 pounds of produce last year and donated it to the Johnston Partnership for people in need. This year we hope to grow even more! In the office there is a box for raising money for seeds, plants, and garden supplies. Help us help our community by donating anything you are willing to give!  We are also accepting gently used garden supplies that you may no longer have a need for in your home.  We will be collecting donations from Monday, March 21st to Friday, April 1st.

SUMMIT GSA MEETING

GSA meets on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month. Next meeting will be April 14 from 3 – 3:30 in room 226. Please contact Mrs. Brock or Mrs. Heston with any questions.

The World Culture Club will meet on Thursdays from 2:50 to 3:30 in room 200. Next meeting Thursday, April 7.

Featured Book of the Week

I really enjoyed this graphic novel!  Chunky is about a middle school boy named Hudi.  Being the only Mexican and Jewish student at his school was already a challenge, but now his doctors tell him he needs to lose weight. So his parents have him try different sports to try to get him more active.  Can Hudi find his passion?
