Featured Book of the Week

April Henry’s new thriller, Girl Forgotten, is about a girl who starts a podcast about the disappearance of a girl from her hometown years ago.  Her podcast has definitely gotten the attention of the town and maybe even the person responsible for the disappearance!

JV & VARSITY DANCE TEAM TRYOUT INFORMATION 

For the 2024.25 School Year – Current Grade 7 – 11

Potential Johnston Dance Team Member,

Tryout packet and registration for the 2024-2025 Johnston Dance Team is officially open!!

The Johnston Dance Team is recognized as an elite team statewide, regionally, and nationally. We have earned this through dedication, discipline, and hard work. Being a part of the team would mean you could perform at exciting events, make new friends, show your dance talent, and most importantly have fun!

Tryouts are open to current 7th-11th graders enrolled in the Johnston Community School District. Teams will be divided into Varsity and Junior Varsity. Eligibility for these teams are as follows.

  • Varsity – current 8th – 11th graders

  • Junior Varsity – current 7th – 9th graders

Please see the information below regarding the 2024-2025 Johnston JV & Varsity Dance Team Program upcoming tryout. This is open to current 7th -11th grade students.

Step 2: Review the Johnston Dance Team Tryout Packet and the 2024-2025 Bylaws and Agreement Form, this is the first item in the google form above.

Step 3: Attend the informational meeting for parents and dancer on Tuesday, March 19th, at 6pm in the Johnston High School Cafeteria, enter door 2.

Step 4: Attend the clinic on Tuesday, March 26th, from 5-8pm at Johnston High School in the gym, enter door 2.

Step 5: Attend the tryout/audition on Thursday, March 28, at 4:30pm at Johnson High School in the gym, enter door 2.

The tryouts are in March 2024 to be on the team for the following year, Fall & Winter 2024.2025. A scoring rubric will be used, and students who have a qualifying score will be notified on the night of Thursday, March 28, if they have made the team. JV & Varsity Dance members have summer camp and practices. JV & Varsity Dance is open to both boys and girls.

MIDDLE SCHOOL CHEER

MIDDLE SCHOOL CHEERLEADING TRYOUTS – CURRENT 7TH & 8TH GRADE STUDENTS:

Please see the information below regarding the Middle School Cheerleading Program upcoming clinics and tryout.

Step 2: Review the JMS Cheer Tryout Packet, this is the first item in the google form above.

Step 3: Attend the clinics on March 19th and March 25th, from 3-5pm at Johnston Middle School

Step 4: Attend the tryout/audition on Saturday, April 6, at Johnson Middle School, from 9am – 11:30am

The tryouts are in April 2024, to be on the team for the following year, Fall 2024. Students that do not make the team, will be notified on or before April 8, 2024. Cheerleaders have summer camp and practices. Cheerleading is open to both boys and girls CURRENTLY IN 7TH & 8TH GRADE. SUMMIT SELECT CHOIR

7th Grade Summit Select Choir will be meeting on Tuesdays from 2:55-3:30 pm through the end of April.

IOWA LAW DAY/NATIONAL HISTORY DAY

Drop in practice with Ms. Ites (Rm. #137) for National History Day & Law Day competitions is 3:00 – 4:00 pm Monday March 18. Students who are participating in NHD need to complete the student sign up with Ms. Ites.

All NHD process papers, annotated bibliographies, papers, documentaries, and websites are DUE digitally at 11:59 pm on Tuesday, March 19, 2024.

All Law Day entries (including parent permission forms) are due digitally by 11:59 pm on Thursday, March 21, 2024.

CHESS CLUB

Interested in the game but don’t know how to play? The Summit Chess Club welcomes all sixth and seventh graders! Mr. O’Brien and Mr. Meyer will teach you and have you challenging your friends in no time. Our expert student leaders can even give you strategies to dominate the board. We meet in Voyage room #226 on Tuesdays from 2:50 – 3:30 pm. NOTE: You must have a ride home after club. The school and sponsors will not provide transportation

GARDEN CLUB

Garden Club meets on Thursdays from 2:50 – 3:30 in Room 129 (Mission).  Students must be able to be picked up at 3:30 or get home on foot.

HYPERSTREAM CLUB

Every Wednesday from 2:50 – 3:40. New students are welcome!

Meets every Monday until 3:30 in room 128 Mission. If you have your own cube, please bring it or we have some to share. You are welcome to come even if you can’t solve a cube. There will be experts there to help out. You will need to find your own ride home.

Next meeting is Wednesday, March 27 from 2:50 – 3:30 in Team Mission room 125. Make sure your ride is at Summit at 3:30.
