BEHAVIOR FOCUS
For next week’s behavior focus, we want to review recess expectations.
The following are appropriate activities and inappropriate activities:
Appropriate Activities at Recess:
Walking around the track
Having appropriate conversation with friends
Playing Basketball, Touch Football, Volleyball, Soccer or catch
Play with those who want to play with you
Inappropriate Activities
Wrestling
Tackle Football
Chasing students
Making any kind of threats or instigating a fight
Using inappropriate language
Calling students names
Dunking on each other
Hitting one another even as a joke.
We want to reiterate the importance of keeping our bodies to ourselves and being kind to everyone. This will decrease or prevent situations from escalating to something more serious where administrators are involved and consequences are handed out.

7th Grade Band Concert: Tuesday (11-14)
Gold Band (2nd/3rd hour) – 5:30pm (students in band room at 5:15pm)
Purple Band (1st/4th hour) – 6:30pm (students in band room at 6:15pm)
Jazz Band rehearsals next week:
– Tuesday – NO Jazz Band
– Thursday – Jazz Band at 7am.
ART CLUB
The next art club meeting will be held Tuesday, November 14 from 3:00 – 4:00 in the art classroom
GARDEN CLUB (NO CLUB TODAY)
Even though the gardening season is over, Garden Club still meets throughout the winter!
All 6th and 7th grade students are welcome on Thursdays from 2:45-3:30 in Room 129 (Mission). Students must be able to be picked up at 3:30 or get home on foot.
We will plan for next spring’s garden, will do some learning about starting plants from seed, will be (hopefully) taking a field trip (details TBD and pending administration approval), will do some sort of drive to benefit the Partnership during our off season months, and will be having fun connecting with friends!

WOMEN’S GOLF
Attention Johnston Women’s Golfers.
Please fill out this form to communicate your intentions for JHS Spring Women’s Golf 2024 (students must fill out the form). JHS Spring Women’s Golf is for current 9th-12th graders in Spring 2024.
We will again make every effort possible to have sessions for current 7th and 8th graders so please sign up so you can get information regarding the program.
Even if you are not sure at this time about joining the team, please sign up so that you may receive information prior to the season starting.

WARRIORS BOOK CLUB
Next Meeting is Wednesday, November 15 from 2:50 – 3:30 in Team Mission room 125. Make sure your ride is at Summit at 3:30. Please bring your favorite Warrior book!
MOCK TRIAL
All four of the Middle School Mock Trial teams from Johnston Schools qualified for the playoff rounds at the Des Moines Regional Competition. Playoff rounds start at 1pm on November 9, with the winners qualifying for the State Tournament later in November. Congratulations to all the team members and coaches of Tram Purple, Team Gold, Team Dragon, and Team Firestorm. Way to #godragons and #MockOn!
CHESS CLUB
Interested in the game but don’t know how to play? The Summit Chess Club welcomes all sixth and seventh graders! Mr. O’Brien and Mr. Meyer will teach you and have you challenging your friends in no time. Our expert student leaders can even give you strategies to dominate the board. We meet in Voyage room #226 on Tuesdays from 2:50 – 3:30 pm. NOTE: You must have a ride home after club. The school and sponsors will not provide transportation.
MATH COUNTS
Come join the MATHCOUNTS CLUB!!!
More than a quarter million students participate in MATHCOUNTS programs or use their resources each year. At Summit, students meet to solve problems and build problem solving skills. Our next meeting will be Monday, Nov. 13 in Ms. Lewis’s room #123 in Team Mission from 3:00 to 4:00. Students need to have a ride home at 4:00.
The coaches are Mr. Steve Skinner and Ms. Linda Lewis. Anyone is welcome to join and there are links on the Activities and Clubs Moodle page under MATHCOUNTS.

Book Fair
Come to the Book Fair to shop for books! It will be open Thursday, Nov. 9th from 10 am – 8 pm for Parent-Teacher conferences. It will also be open next week Monday – Thursday from 10 am – 2 pm.
