SMS Announcements-Monday, Nov. 6th-B Day

TUESDAY-A DAY

EARLY DISMISSAL ON THURSDAY AT 11:50 PM

NO SCHOOL ON FRIDAY

BEHAVIOR FOCUS

Our focus next week will be following Hallway Expectations. As always, students need to be walking to class and taking the direct route. It is important to be in class on time. If the bathroom line is too long, then students should go to class first and ask for a pass to the restroom. While in the hallways, our hands should always be kept to ourselves.

UN-FUNDRAISER UPDATE

We have raised $5,750 for our fundraiser which means that students will get to Silly String two teachers from each community!

There is still time to donate! If you haven’t donated yet or would like to donate again, you may do so by going to the links below or sending cash or check to Summit Middle School! Be sure to check with your employer to see if they do company matches.

Thank you for your continued support during our UnFundraiser! The UnFundraiser will end on Friday November 10th.

WOMEN’S GOLF

Attention Johnston Women’s Golfers.

Please fill out this form to communicate your intentions for JHS Spring Women’s Golf 2024 (students must fill out the form). JHS Spring Women’s Golf is for current 9th-12th graders in Spring 2024.

We will again make every effort possible to have sessions for current 7th and 8th graders so please sign up so you can get information regarding the program.

Even if you are not sure at this time about joining the team, please sign up so that you may receive information prior to the season starting.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Coach Hattel at chattel@johnston.k12.ia.us.

WRESTLING

This is Mr. Tecklenburg (7th grade SS and head JHS wrestling coach).  I’m reaching out to encourage any of our Summit students interested in wrestling and/or parents interested in getting their child involved with a school activity, to get signed up!  Some things to note about 7th grade wrestling:

1. We have both a girls and a boys team!  Both groups provide awesome coaching and great team atmospheres!

2.  It’s one of only THREE 7th grade sport opportunities at Johnston (cross country and swimming are the other two).

3. There is no cost to join and no expensive equipment to purchase.

4.  There is no experience required (many students try wrestling for the first time in 7th grade and compete all through HS).

5.  It’s a short introductory season (over in mid December), with no weekend commitments, and practice is over at 5PM daily.

It’s easy to register at the link below, and I’d be happy to answer any questions you might have.  Just shoot me an email at the address under the link!  Practices start in a few weeks- around mid October, and we’d love to see your child involved!

MATH COUNTS

Come join the MATHCOUNTS CLUB!!!

More than a quarter million students participate in MATHCOUNTS programs or use their resources each year. At Summit, students meet to solve problems and build problem solving skills. Our next meeting will be Monday, Nov. 13 in Ms. Lewis’s room #123 in Team Mission from 3:00 to 4:00. Students need to have a ride home at 4:00.

In January, students will begin meeting every week on Mondays after school to get ready for 4 levels of competition. This is open to any student who enjoys problem solving with others in a competitive environment. Our school competition will be in January, a local competition in February, state in March and then the National Competition.

The coaches are Mr. Steve Skinner and Ms. Linda Lewis. Anyone is welcome to join and there are links on the Activities and Clubs Moodle page under MATHCOUNTS.
