MATHCOUNTS
MathCounts students, during January we will be conducting our team competition. This begins with our meeting this week on Monday, Jan. 9. Here are our meeting dates for the rest of January:
Monday, January 9 – sprint round competition
Tuesday, January 17 – practice target round
Monday, January 23 – target round competition
Monday, January 30 – team challenge/countdown round
SMS CHEER CLUB
Meets first and third Tuesdays of the month from 3 until 3:45.
WARRIORS CLUB
For fans of the Warriors book series! We meet every other Tuesday. Our next meeting is January 10 in Mr. Hiatt’s room, Team Mission, from 3:00 to 3:30 PM. Please make sure your ride is at Summit at 3:30.
At our club, we will roleplay, write books, and more! To join, fill out the form on one of our posters hung around the school. Our most easily accessible form is on the pole outside the library, please sign up there! For more information, please contact Mr. Hiatt at mhiatt@jdragonmail.us
HYPERSTREAM
Tuesday and Thursday groups are up and running. If you’d like to join, please email Mr. Motz (jeff.motz@johnston.k12.ia.us) and he will get back to you about coming to our group. Students are currently learning to code using a language called “PYTHON” and playing video games with friends to have fun!
GSA CLUB
The Summit GSA January meetings will be on Thursday, January 12 and Thursday, January 26 from 3-3:30 pm in Room 136 (Expedition Community). You must have transportation home from Summit after the meeting. Please reach out to the GSA staff sponsors, Mrs. Heston or Mrs. Brock with any questions.
GARDEN CLUB
Garden Club will meet in Mrs. Barlow’s Room on Thursdays until 3:30.
Garden Club is holding a birthday cake kit drive for the Johnston Partnership. Items needed include 9×13 aluminum cake pans with lids, cake mixes (any flavor), frosting (any flavor), cans of Sprite (substitute for oil and eggs), and birthday candles. Students can drop off donations in a box labeled “Garden Club Cake Kit Donations” near the entrance of their community. The Garden Club will assemble and deliver the birthday cake kits in February.
