WINTER CHEER CLINIC

JMS Winter Cheer Clinic for Grades 6 & 7

Johnston Community Education presents a winter cheer clinic for students in grades 6 and 7. The clinic will take place at Summit Middle School, after school until 5pm on Tuesday, January 16 and Wednesday, January 17, 2024. The attending students will then participate in a performance on Thursday, January 18th at the Johnston Middle School Basketball Game.

This clinic will provide an opportunity to refine cheer technique, learn jumps, practice tumbling, develop proper stunt techniques and more.

ART CLUB

The next art clubs will be held Tuesdays, January 9 and 23 from 3:00 – 4:00 in the art classroom.

BOOK CLUB

Next book club meetings will be January 11 and 25 from 2:50 – 3:30.

WARRIORS BOOK CLUB

Next meeting is Wednesday, January 10 from 2:50 – 3:30 in Team Mission room 125. Make sure your ride is at Summit at 3:30.

CHESS CLUB 

Interested in the game but don’t know how to play? The Summit Chess Club welcomes all sixth and seventh graders! Mr. O’Brien and Mr. Meyer will teach you and have you challenging your friends in no time. Our expert student leaders can even give you strategies to dominate the board. We meet in Voyage room #226 on Tuesdays from 2:50 – 3:30 pm. NOTE: You must have a ride home after club. The school and sponsors will not provide transportation.

GARDEN CLUB

Even though the gardening season is over, Garden Club still meets throughout the winter! All 6th and 7th grade students are welcome on Thursdays from 2:50 – 3:30 in Room 129 (Mission).  Students must be able to be picked up at 3:30 or get home on foot.

MATH COUNTS

A reminder that MathCounts will be meeting EVERY MONDAY from now on through our competition. Our next meeting will be Monday, Jan. 8 in Ms. Lewis’s room #123 in Team Mission from 3:00 to 4:00. Students need to have a ride home at 4:00.

Snowball Contest

There were 199 “snowballs” in the jars for the December Library contest.  We have 2 winners – Noelle Beirman (who guessed 198) and Ella Dakan (who guessed 200).  Congrats to both!  Please see Mrs. McAlister in the library to collect your prize!
