BOY’S GOLF — On August 11, the varsity & junior varsity won their dual vs. Urbandale at Jester Park Golf Course. Varsity 306-371, JV 318-403. V- Nate Freidhoff 74 (medalist), Owen Howe 75, Ben Christy 77, Cade McGill/Calen Bishop 80. JV- Krish Gupta 77, Jacob Peterson 79, Tyler Herrmann 79, Gabe Kramer 83.
On August 16, the 9th/10th lost in dual vs. SEP at Toad Valley. Kathir Kalyanaraman 42, Ried Hany 45, Lance Mixdorf 45, Cooper Van Hart 46.
On August 16, the varsity placed 1st out of 10 teams in the IC West Invite at Bluetop Ridge w/ a 303. Krish Gupta 75 (4th), Calen Bishop (5th), Owen Howe (6th), Ben Christy (7th) all 76 out of 60 golfers.
On August 18, the 9th/10th split w/ Waukee and Waukee NW at Sugar Creek. Andrew Hunt 41, Ried Hany 42, Drew Peterson 42, Carson Crabb and Cooper Van Hart 45.
On August 18, the varsity placed 2nd out of 12 teams in the Lancer Invite at Glynn’s Creek w/ a 306. Matt Pineda 73 (medalist), Calen Bishop 77 (T6), Cade McGill 77 (T6), Ben Christy 79 (T11) out of 72 golfers.
On August 19, the varsity placed 4th out of 18 teams in the Warrior Invite at Cedar Rapids Country Club w/ a 313. Calen Bishop 74 (T3), Ben Christy 76 (T18), Krish Gupta 80 (T24), Owen Howe 81 (T32) out of 108 golfers.
On August 25, the varsity placed 2nd out of 12 teams in the Dragon Invite at Jester Park Golf Course w/ a 305. Calen Bishop 73 (T1), Owen Howe 77 (T13), Krish Gupta 77 (T13), Tyler Herrmann 78 (T15) out of 72 golfers.

The 9th/10th Dragons are competing in a Triangular meet with DCHS and Valley at Jester Park Golf Course Par 3 at 3:30pm on 8/31/21.
The JV Dragons are competing in a Dual meet with Waukee at Legacy Golf Course starting at 3:30pm on 9/2/21.
The JV Dragons are competing in a Quad meet with Waukee NW, Centennial, and DCHS at 2:00pm on 9/2/21.
9th GRADE SPEECH & DEBATE — 9th graders in joining the speech and debate team, there will be an informational meeting at the HS in room 321 on September 7th at 3:15. Take the activities bus to the HS, enter the auditorium doors and take the first left down the academic hallway. The room will be on your left.

REPEAT ANNOUNCEMENTS:
ACTIVITY PASSES — Your 2021-22 activity passes are ready for pickup in the Counseling Office. If you purchased an activity pass for this year, please stop by the Counseling Office before 2:00 to pick it up. If you did not purchase an activity pass and would like to, you may purchase in the Main Office for $50 (9th grade) or $30 (8th grade) or online through RevTrak.

If you are interested in being part of student council, please fill out the form below this message. We will be planning events for JMS and the community to get students involved. Our first event: homecoming! Help us plan our dress up days and other fun homecoming events for the 2021 school year.

ATTENTION 9TH GRADERS — We still have a few remaining 2020-2021 yearbooks available for purchase in the Main Office. If you missed the opportunity to purchase one in the spring or would like an additional yearbook from last year, please bring $25 to the Main Office while they last!
JMS WEIGHT ROOM — Below you will find information regarding our Weightlifting Program.
WEIGHTLIFTING HOURS OF OPERATION:
8th Grade Students – 3:00-4:00pm – Monday & Thursday
9th Grade Students – 3:00-4:00pm – Tuesday & Friday
LOCATION:
JMS Weight Room – Closest Entrance is Door 15
FALL SCHEDULE:
1st Official Day – Monday, August 30 – 8th & 9th Informational Meeting & Instructions
Last Day of Fall – Friday, October 22
CLOSED DATES:
School Early Dismissal Days = no weightlifting
School Weather Dismissal Days = no weightlifting
Non School Days / Holidays = no weightlifting
ATTENTION SCHOOL PERMIT DRIVERS: We want to keep you safe and legal. REMEMBER YOU CAN ONLY DRIVE TO SCHOOL–you should not be driving to any other location with this permit! Please review the laws/expectations of your School Permit.
USAGE: When can I use my School Permit?
· Only within the school boundaries
· To school or school sponsored event
LOCATIONS: ** Where do I go with my School Permit? **
· Travel the direct route (App.)
· Gas stations should be on or nearest to the route
TRANSPORTING OTHERS: Can anyone else ride with me?
· One passenger other than siblings
· This does not change the direct route expectation, passengers must start and stop at your locations
VIOLATIONS: What will happen to me if I don’t obey the law?
· Examples of Law Enforcement Consequences
· Loss of privileges (Ex: 2 or more Moving Violations = Revoked for 1 year)
· Monetary (Ex: $195 for Speeding Violation)
· Prolonged time for license
· School Consequences

· Must have purchased a parking tag ($20) in the JMS Front Office
· Use only non “staff parking” spots
9th grade students who wish to obtain a school driver’s permit can follow the following link: https://www.johnstoncsd.org/school-news/school-drivers-permit-process/
This link will guide them to a Google Site. Students will need to log in with their jdragonmail credentials in order to watch a video and complete a quiz. The video contains the information that was presented at permit meetings in the past and will now take the place of those meetings. One parent will need to watch the video and note that completion on the quiz. As usual, the only students eligible are 9th graders who have completed driver’s education and have had their learner’s permit for at least six months. After the quiz has been completed, students can pick up their signed Department of Transportation form in the JMS Front Office. Students will need a parking tag to park on school grounds during the school year. Parking tags are available for $20 when students pick up their DOT form. Please make sure you have your license plate number with you at the time of purchase.
