MATHEMATICS DAY:  We are planning a fun and exciting (and no cost!) mathematics event for female students in middle school on Saturday, April 9th!

The Iowa State University Sonia Kovalevsky Girls Mathematics Day will be held:

Saturday, April 9

10:00am – 2:00pm

Carver Hall

Iowa State University Campus

Ames, Iowa

The goal of Sonia Kovalevsky Day is to stimulate young women’s interest in mathematics and to encourage them to pursue a career in math and science.  Participants will engage in hands-on activities through a series of workshops on exciting math topics and will have the chance to interact with other participants, mathematics graduate and undergraduate students and mathematics professors. Events will include a keynote speaker, fun hands-on activities, lunch (provided), and small group mentoring sessions with female mathematicians. We will talk about magic squares, zombie outbreak models, and hexaflexagons.  Teachers as well as parents/guardians are welcome to join their students.

We hope you will help us spread the word.  For more information and to register, visit:

https://math.iastate.edu/2022/03/04/sonia-kovalevsky-mathematics-day-2022/

We ask that the registration form be completed and submitted no later than March 31.

If you have questions, please email us at mathoffice@iastate.edu.  We hope to see you and your students here for a wonderful event celebrating female mathematicians!

The event is open to female and non-binary middle school students and their teachers, both men and women. We hope that you will join us for this special event!

9th grade students who wish to obtain a school driver’s permit can follow the following link: https://www.johnstoncsd.org/school-news/school-drivers-permit-process/

This link will guide them to a Google Site. Students will need to log in with their jdragonmail credentials in order to watch a video and complete a quiz. The video contains the information that was presented at permit meetings in the past and will now take the place of those meetings. One parent will need to watch the video and note that completion on the quiz. As usual, the only students eligible are 9th graders who have completed driver’s education and have had their learner’s permit for at least six months. After the quiz has been completed, students can pick up their signed Department of Transportation form in the JMS Front Office. Students will need a parking tag to park on school grounds during the school year. Parking tags are available for $20 when students pick up their DOT form. Please make sure you have your license plate number with you at the time of purchase.
