Join Academic Decathalon!

What is Ac Dec?  A contest where you take 7 bubble tests about 7 separate subjects, give a speech and get interviewed.  It’s fun – Really!

Subjects are: math, science, music history, art history, economics, literature, history – this year focused on health/wellness.  The novel is Frankenstein!!!

All 8th, 9th, and JV basketball cheerleaders

Please check BAND for team rosters and the winter season’s tentative schedule. The Google Form for sizing MUST be filled out by this Thursday. For any questions, please see Miss Clark, room 520.


The JHS Fishing Club will be welcoming all interested 8th and 9th grade students and guardian(s)/parent(s) on Monday, October 21st at 7:00 pm at the JHS Commons (Cafeteria) area. Any students interested in fishing and fishing competitively are welcome to join. No experience necessary! Please bring your guardian(s)/parent(s) as we will have important information for them. Thank you! We look forward to seeing and meeting our new anglers!


8th Grade Girls Basketball Players and Parents:

Thursday, October 17, will be the first day of Johnston 8th Grade Girls Basketball Practice.

Practice will be from 3:10-5:00 pm in the Big Gym at JMS.

There will also be a Parent/Player Meeting at 5:00 pm in the Big Gym following the 1st practice. Parents should enter JMS from the North side of the building by the Fitness Center.

          *This meeting should only last 15 minutes*

Players should wear gym shorts, t-shirts, basketball shoes and white or black gym socks to practice each day.

Players should also bring a water bottle (with a secure lid) so they can get drinks throughout practice.

All girls 9-12, and parents, interested in playing girls basketball this year will need to attend a mandatory player / parent meeting on Sunday October 20th at JHS in the commons.  Please bring your smart phone or school iPad – any questions email Coach Jilek at cjilek42@gmail.com.


It’s that time of year again…bowling season! If contact sports aren’t in your wheelhouse, you need a change of pace from other sports, or want a relaxing atmosphere to hang out with like-minded people, bowling is for you! The JHS/DCG bowling team is starting up very soon! We will have an informational meeting at JHS next Monday, October 21st, at 4:30pm (Enter through the Activities Door and turn right towards the main office).

Tryouts will be held Nov. 11th and 12th for boys, Nov. 13th and 14th for girls. No experience or equipment necessary! All tryouts and practices will be held at Warrior Lanes (190 SE Laurel Street Waukee, IA 50263). Any 7th or 8th Grader interested in going out for Wrestling will need to sign up on this google form https://forms.gle/gDtjXRERhyCkEG318.

Practice will begin October 17th after school @ the JMS wrestling room. Bring clothes to practice in as well as your wrestling shoes.  If you have head gear bring those as well. Your parents will need to sign you up by uploading your physical and signing the concussion form and good conduct policy through the school website @ https://johnstoncsd-ar.rschooltoday.com/.  Please fill out all information before the first practice on the 17th.
