Attention female students! The free and fun Iowa State University Sonya Kovalevsky Girls Mathematics Day will be held:

Saturday, March 30

9:00 am – 2:00 pm

Carver Hall

Iowa State University Campus

Ames, Iowa

The theme for the day will be: Some Mathematical Aspects of Paper Folding and Origami.

Events will include a keynote speaker, hands-on activities, lunch (provided), and small group mentoring sessions with female mathematicians.

8th Grade Girls track will have an informational meeting this Thursday at 3:00pm in the small gym OR Friday morning at 7:30am in the small gym.  Practice will start on Monday, March 11 after school.  There will be a parent meeting on Tuesday, March 12th after practice at 4:45 pm in the lunch room.  If you did not sign up during the other pre-season meeting you can still attend and sign up for track.  

 

8th Grade Boys track will have an information meeting this Thursday, March 7 at 3:15 in the auditorium until 4:00.  Practice will start on Monday, March 11 after school. There will be a parent meeting on Tuesday, March 12 after practice at 5:00-6:00 pm in the JMS auditorium.  All participants must get signed up online at https://johnstoncsd-ar.rschooltoday.com/ prior to the first practice.  The head coach will be Ken Nead and his email is ken.nead@johnston.k12.ia.us.  

 

Friends of Johnston ELP will be hosting National Speaker Lisa Van Gemert on Tuesday, April 9th, at 7pm at Johnston Middle School Auditorium.  You won’t want to miss this unique opportunity to hear from the “GIFTED GURU”, Lisa Van Gemert. Lisa is a national speaker and author of the book, Perfectionism: Practical Strategies for Managing Never Good Enough. She will be discussing boundaries for the gifted to include peer boundaries, adult interaction and even electronics. As always, this is a free event and open to the public.  Please join us- it will be an evening to remember!
