Johnston iJAG (Iowa’s Jobs for America’s Graduates tonight inducted 42 students, including 11 returning students, for 2023-2024! The program aims to provide students with the skills, support and opportunities they need to be successful after high school. Inductees included juniors Ron Grayson, Kiko Heidbreder, Amani Jenkins, Caitlynn Tague, Cayden Green, Lucian Sookram, Solene MacLean, Shamya Anderson, Bryce Blanchard, Martin Carrillo, Aj Darboh, Olivia Ratliff and Jaiden Triplett. Senior inductees included Daniela Aguillon, Gavin Backous, Afomia Gebremedhin, Dusty Nyonee, Ilhana Palic, Francisco Pelayo-Pintor, Vanessa Simpson, Caley Tran, Trovary Cavil, Link Fisher, McKale Henriquez, Vincent Kelly, Anthony Kiatamba, Matthew Lehman and Susan Par. Finally, senior inductees included Gabe Morales, Vivian Moss, Reuben Harrison, Justin Ndabarishe, Raven Parizek, Elizabeth Pouliot, Stanley Togba Jr., Jett Jacobson, Kaden Koss, Vanessa Mugabe, Grace Passehl, Josey Polk, Jackson Sawhill and Anne Marie Tuyishime.

Four JHS band and orchestra students were accepted into All-State Band or Orchestra last weekend! They are: Chloe Liang, sophomore, clarinet; Margi Skinner, senior, alto saxophone; Peyton Brown, senior, clarinet. Peyton will also have the distinct honor of being a four year member of the All-State Band. This is a huge accomplishment! Anna Lu, junior, violin will be in the All-State Orchestra. Congratulations!
JHSDT was represented well at ISDTA State Qualifiers with all 5 soloists receiving a division I rating. Junior, Clara Orosco, placed in the top 10 which qualifies her to compete for an individual state title on Friday December 1st!

Final results: —In HI Marla Wirt placed third and Corley Blackford placed 1st —In DI, Emilia Kongshaug placed 2nd and Ella Devine placed 1st —In Duo, Paige Neighbors and Natalie Miller placed 1st in their event. —In Congress, Chamber 1 – Aravind Balaji got first place. Chamber 2 – Shereyas Shrestha got 2nd place. —In Novice LD, Sahashra Dendi was the third best speaker in LD. Also, she advanced into outrounds and became Johnston’s first LD champion in recent memory. —In Novice PF, Madeleine Licht got 2nd best speaker in Novice PF. Hudson Irwin was the best speaker in Novice PF. Both Hudson and Madeleine along with Quinnlyn Schulte and Manasvi Dhanekula both made it to semifinals in PF. Quinnlyn and Manasvi ended up being semifinalists in PF while the other team made it to finals. In finals, Hudson and Madeleine became runner ups.
DRAGON SCHOLARSHIP FUND PHON A THON
Dragon Scholarship Fund’s Phone-A-Thon returns. Johnston High School students will be calling Johnston residents for pledges to donate to the Dragon Scholarship Fund. Students will be calling on November 8th and November 12th – November 16th. All proceeds from this campaign are returned into the Johnston community in the form of scholarships for our graduating seniors.
