JHS students Landon Fuerst, Jason Lampman and Alex Kehoe on Friday won the 2024 boys welding division championship at the
annual high school weld-off, bringing home the champion banner for Johnston! Landon placed 1st overall, winning a brand new Miller welder and a cool champion belt. Ana Dornes also competed in the girls division. Congratulations to all of our students for showcasing their welding skills!

Congratulations to JHS senior Courtney Sweet who was selected as a 2024 Coca-Cola Scholar, winning one of 150 college scholarships worth $20,000! Less than 1/6th of 1% of applicants were chosen to receive this extremely competitive award. These 150 students, who were selected from an initial pool of 103,800+ applications from across the country, not only exemplify leadership, service and academics, but are change agents, positively affecting others in their communities. Coca-Cola Scholars attended the Coca-Cola Scholars Weekend on April 25-28 in Atlanta where they were the guests of honor at the 36th annual Coca-Cola Scholars Banquet and participated in the Coca-Cola Scholars Leadership Development Institute.
At the Special Olympics today, JHS senior Katie Gray qualified for state in the 200 meter dash and placed third in the 100 meter dash! Congratulations, Katie and thanks to JHS teacher Christine Wolford for being out there to support our students!
Graduation is right around the corner and our elementary schools are planning for the much-loved tradition of paying tribute to their former students! “Seniors Come Home” will be held at all five elementary schools at 3:15 p.m. Friday, May 17 this year. JHS seniors, mark your calendars and plan to “come home” to your elementary school to receive a standing ovation (and some warm hugs) that day!!
The Dungeons and Dragons club has recently been restarted, and we need people. If you are wanting to join, the club meets at the library from 2:50 till 4:00. No experience is needed to play. You will want to either download the D&D Beyond app or bring paper character sheets

SPRING EMT CLASS FOR 24-25 SCHOOL YEAR OPPORTUNITY
Attention all 10th and 11th graders. Do you want to attend the Iowa Youth Institute sponsored by Iowa State University and World Food Prize Foundation. Students who are interested in attending will research a global challenge related to food security and write a simple research paper. All students that submit a paper will get to attend the Iowa Youth Institute and will be in the running for scholarships, qualifying for the Global Youth Institute and be eligible for international internships.
