NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

 

Graduation is right around the corner and our elementary schools are planning for the much-loved tradition of paying tribute to their former students! “Seniors Come Home” will be held at all five elementary schools at 3:15 p.m. Friday, May 17 this year. JHS seniors, mark your calendars and plan to “come home” to your elementary school to receive a standing ovation (and some warm hugs) that day!

It was a celebration and showcase of cultures as Johnston High School students held a Culture Day this weekend filled with food, fun and performances!

Sixty-one students were inducted this week into the JHS chapter of the National Honor Society!

                                             Boy’s Cross Country
All boys that will be in grades 9-12 next year: There will be a boy’s Cross Country meeting on Monday, May 20th from 3-3:20 PM in the JMS Auditorium. Please contact Coach Jaschen at matt.jaschen@johnston.k12.ia.us if you have any questions!

 

Show band Auditions for the 2024-2025 school Year!

We are having auditions for JHS Show Bands for the 2024-2025 school year this spring!  Information about the auditions can be found at the table outside the Black Box at JHS. Auditions will be virtual and are due on Wednesday May 22nd. If you have any questions please come and talk to Mrs. Grimm!! If you are a 9th grade student at JMS please go and talk to Mrs. O’Leary. We are looking forward to another amazing season with all our groups!

JHS students with the 4+ program were trained on riding the bus by Catlin Curry, a Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (

 ) mobility coordinator who provides education and outreach. This was such a great experience and well done presentation! The kids loved riding the bus too.

Cantus sang at the Capitol and Judicial Building today! Always a highlight! 

 

JHS students in Rhys South’s Construction Technology class are building a playhouse for preschool children at the Johnston Early Learning Academy! They started last week and will finish before the end of the school year. Skills learned in the process include traditional house framing and roofing. They will also be spray painting the playhouse. Our Building and Grounds Department will move it from JHS to JELA when it’s done! ‍♂️

Johnston High School Cheer Tryouts
Who: Current 9th-11th grade students
When: Saturday, May 18th – Clinic starting at 8:00am & Tryouts starting at 12:00pm
Where: Johnston High School Multipurpose Room & Gym
Why: Spread your dragon spirit with the school and community while demonstrating your skills as an athlete

Our 

 students participated in the Friendship Walk this past weekend! JHS junior Aaron Sutherland and sophomore Micah Fitzgerald shared a speech promoting inclusion before the walk!

Tennis updates!  Boys advance to the Team Substate Finals, after a 5-3 win over CR Prairie on Saturday. Also, special shout out to Campbell Love who has qualified for the state individual singles tournament! And following Individual Regionals last week, girls are State Bound! Allie and Lauren upset #1 seed Waukee NW 6-1, 6-0  to be Regional Champs! 

 

This week,

and JHS Students 4 Change hosted a color run to raise money for breast cancer in support of Mrs. Gray. They raised $473.60 for Pink Tractor Foundation. Thank you to everyone who came! ‍♀️‍♂️

The Dungeons and Dragons club has recently been restarted, and we need people.
If you are wanting to join, the club meets at the library from 2:50 till 4:00.
No experience is needed to play. You will want to either download the D&D Beyond app or bring paper character sheets

 

Support Spanish teacher, Mrs. Gray, through her cancer journey by purchasing a bracelet for $1. Bracelets can be found in Mrs. Palmers room or any Spanish room!”
