John Deere Financial visited Johnston High School this week to talk about their registered apprenticeship program in customer service. JHS seniors Owen Tallman and Damian Axtell, who started their apprenticeships this past summer, shared their experience and encouraged students to apply. The apprenticeship is a new pilot program at John Deere Financial. It is a paid apprenticeship in partnership with JHS. Owen and Damian are both interested in finance — Damian plans to study accounting and become a CPA, while Owen plans to study economics. The apprenticeship will help get their foot in the door. The two Johnston students are among six who started in customer service, working with farmers and construction workers on revolving plan accounts and setting up payments for materials such as seeds and chemicals. Should they continue working there, they could qualify for tuition assistance.
What an amazing fall 2023 athletic season!
Highlights include FOUR state championships — for our girls cross country team, one for individual boys golf, and two for individual girls swimming, plus an Athlete of the Year. We also took 2nd in state for individuals at girls XC, 2nd in state for our boys golf team, 9th in state for our boys XC team, and 11th at state for our girls swim team. Our volleyball team qualified for state, as did three divers, and our football team made it to the playoffs. Way to go, Dragons! Congratulations to all of the student athletes and coaches. Winter sports, here we come!
