THURSDAY-A DAY

GSA GROUP

The Summit GSA will hold its first meeting on Thursday, April 29th from 2:50-3:30 in the Summit Library. Please see Mrs. Heston or Mrs. Brock with any questions.

NATIONAL HISTORY DAY

Congratulations to 7th graders Emma Dummermuth, Ahana Devadas, and Zoe Zhang as their National History Day documentary on the importance of war photography to news reporting qualified for the semi-finals at the Iowa History Day State Contest.  Winners of Iowa History Day will be qualified for the National History Day Contest in June, and will be announced on April 30th.  Summit students Leah Ferguson, Charlie Berk, Henry Zou, Luka Felbapov, and Luke Gragg were also State Qualifiers.

Congratulations also go out to 6th graders Leah Ferguson, Natalie Miller, and Caitlyn Robertson who were named winners in the Performing Arts category for the 2021 Polk County Bar Association Law Day Contest.  The students created a video short on the different ways laws have changed over time to meet this year’s theme “Advancing the Rule of Law Now.” They will be honored at a Zoom ceremony with members of the Iowa Bar on May 3, 2021.

FROM THE LIBRARY

School Library Month

In April we celebrate School Library Month.  Use this form to share why you like the Summit Library and enter the prize drawing!  Winners will be announced at the end of the month!

Featured Book of the Week

In the Footsteps of Crazy Horse follows Jimmy and his grandfather as they retrace the most important locations in Crazy Horse’s life.  Jimmy, who is part Lakota, learns a lot about his heritage and the history of his tribe.  This is a short, fast read and may especially be of interest to anyone who is interested in the West or the history of our country.

End of the Year

All Library books are due back to the Summit Library on May 17th!  Starting next week, we will start limiting students to having only 2 books checked out a  time to help aid us in the effort to get all the books returned by the end of the year.
