MATH COUNTS TODAY

Reminder to the Math Counts team that qualified for state…..We will be meeting today and next Monday from 3-3:30 in Mr. Skinner’s room to prepare for our State competition next week.

 

BIG SISTER/LITTLE SISTER

Big Sister/Little Sister will be meeting TODAY after school from 3-4pm in Voyage room 228. Please see Mrs. Jordan, Mrs. Heston or Mrs. Brock with any questions.

 

PTO COMMUNITY SERVICE MONTH

  • Wednesday, March 4 Pizza Ranch Night—take a night off from cooking dinner and support fundraising for Meals from the Heartland (5-8 PM)
  • Thursday, March 12 PTO Social—students will enjoy food and activities from 3 – 4:30 PM at Summit to fundraise for Meals from the Heartland
  • Friday, March 27 Meals from the Heartland.  All students will package food in the gym.

 

SPRING BOOK FAIR

Congratulations to Bryce in Mrs. Buchan’s Literacy class for winning the jar of animal crackers. The answer was 542 animal crackers.

Our Spring Book Fair starts Tuesday, February 25th and is open through Friday, March 6th.  We will be open the following hours:

  • Tuesday, March 3rd- 12:00 pm to 2:45 pm
  • Wednesday, March 4th- 8:00 am to 12:00 pm
  • Thursday, March 5th- 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm
  • Friday, March 6th- 8:00 am to 11:00 am

Your parents can add money to an eWallet account at https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/summitmiddleschool3 and you can come shop at the book fair without having to bring cash to school.  It works like your lunch account!

Paradise Junction News for today:

Final Week of Rehearsals for Paradise Junction!

 

ALL cast members MUST be at each rehearsal this week. We will work with technology today – Monday, March 2 – from 3 to 6. We will assign set changes, work with microphones, etc. EVERYONE in both casts should be here this week. If you want to be on run crew (those who help with moving the sets off and on) you must be here for each practice this week. Snacks mid-rehearsal. Bring $5 for Friday pizza by Thursday.

 

  • Monday 3/2: Sets, props, sound, lights – both casts 3 – 6. All crew – be sure Mrs. Murdock has your name for the program if you have helped with crew and/or will help with performances or run crew.
  • Tuesday 3/3: Run throughs: Gold will rehearse first, then Purple will run through their scenes. Gold can leave when you are finished. 3-6 p.m.
  • Wednesday 3/4: DRESS REHEARSAL! Put on your costumes after school. Purple will rehearse first, then gold. Purple can leave when you are finished 2 – 5 p.m.
  • Thursday 3/5: FINAL DRESS REHEARSAL!!! Everyone stays for both shows. Watch the other cast and be a good audience. Full costumes, props, microphones, etc. 3 – 6 p.m.
  • Friday 3/6: PERFORMANCES!!  Gold Cast – be at school between 4 and 4:30. Be in costume by 5 p.m. Wait in choir room. Purple Cast: Arrive at school no later than 6 to 6:15 (you may come at 4:30, get into costume, and watch the Gold Cast). Go to music room and get your costumes on SILENTLY.  Pizza at 6:30 p.m. Be ready for show by 7 p.m. Crew – Arrive by 4:30 p.m.
  • Saturday 3/7: PERFORMANCES!!  Purple Cast – be at school between 4 and 4:30. Be in costume by 5 p.m. Wait in Music room. Gold Cast: Arrive at school no later than 6 to 6:15 (you may come at 4:30, get into costume, and watch the Purple Cast). Go to music room and get your costumes on SILENTLY.  Be ready for show by 7 p.m. – Crew arrive by 4:30 p.m.
  • Monday, March 9: Cast party after school from 3-4 p.m. in the cafeteria. Cake and slideshow.

 

NATIONAL HISTORY DAY

All students participating in National History Day need to be registered by Friday February 28.  The $13.00 entrance fee may be paid on the day of the event, or submitted to Dr. Kevin Gannon at Grandview University; see notes on this after you complete registration.   Any Checks must be made out to Grand View University with “History Day” in the memo.

Remaining practices will be the following:

  • Tuesday 3/3 – primary / secondary annotations – discuss timeline construction (number of events to use and how to include theme)
  • Friday 3/5 – timelines
  • Tuesday 3/10 – theme infusion in all project / rough draft review
  • Thurs 3/12 – rough draft review  / prep for practice presentations following SB
  • FRIDAY 3/13 – PAPERS DUE AT GRANDVIEW UNIVERSITY BY 4:00PM / WEBSITES LOCK AT 10:00PM
  • SPRING BREAK
  • TUESDAY 3/23 – PRACTICE PRESENTATIONS – use feedback to make changes
  • THURSDAY 3/26 – PRACTICE PRESENTATIONS –use feedback to make changes
  • SATURDAY 3/28 – MERLE HAY REGIONALS AT GRANDVIEW UNIVERSITY, STARTING AT 7:30AM.
