CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to 7th graders Emma Dummermuth, Ahana Devadas, and Zoe Zhang as their National History Day documentary on the importance of war photography to news reporting qualified for the semi-finals at the Iowa History Day State Contest.  Winners of Iowa History Day will be qualified for the National History Day Contest in June, and will be announced on April 30th.  Summit students Leah Ferguson, Charlie Berk, Henry Zou, Luka Felbapov, and Luke Gragg were also State Qualifiers.

Congratulations also go out to 6th graders Leah Ferguson, Natalie Miller, and Caitlyn Robertson who were named winners in the Performing Arts category for the 2021 Polk County Bar Association Law Day Contest.  The students created a video short on the different ways laws have changed over time to meet this year’s theme “Advancing the Rule of Law Now.” They will be honored at a Zoom ceremony with members of the Iowa Bar on May 3, 2021.

GSA

FROM THE LIBRARY

End of the Year

All Library books are due back to the Summit Library on May 17!  Students are now limited to having only 2 books checked out at a time to help us in the effort to get all books returned by the end of the year.

Featured Book of the Week

Motor Girls is a nonfiction book that tells the history of automobiles and especially women’s role in the first automobiles.  During a time period when women were usually not allowed to drive, this book tells the daring tales of some progressive women that drove for fun, entered races, and normalized driving for all women.  It was very informative and more interesting than I thought it would be!
