Eddy named Johnston’s Executive Director of Instructional Services
JOHNSTON, Ia. (March 6, 2025) — Carol Eddy of Pleasant Hill has been named the Johnston Community School District’s new Executive Director of Instructional Services, pending March 10 approval by the school board.
The new position splits the Associate Superintendent position held by Jill Van Woerkom with the leadership of Instructional Services. The change marks a return to a leadership structure that existed several years ago. Instructional Services includes Special Education, Student Services, Technology, and Teaching and Learning.
More than two decades of experience
Eddy has 23 years of professional experience including working in the Ankeny school district for the past 12 ½ years. She currently serves as their Director of Curriculum & Innovation and previously worked as Director of Middle School STEM, a high school principal and middle school associate principal there.
Before Ankeny, Eddy worked in the PCM school district as a principal and curriculum director for almost 4 years, and in the Southeast Polk school district as a junior high geography teacher, staff development team member, and head volleyball and track coach for almost 6 years.
“Throughout my career, I have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to enhancing curricular and instructional programs,” she said. “My background in leading teams and fostering collaboration has equipped me with the ability to inspire educators and stakeholders alike.”
Eddy earned her bachelor’s degrees in psychology from Iowa State University and in secondary education from Grand View College. She received her master’s degree in Educational Administration at Iowa State with an endorsement as a K-12 principal. She received her Superintendent Licensure from Drake University.
Sixth member of Cabinet
Under the direction of the Superintendent, the Executive Director of Instructional Services is responsible for providing the vision, leadership, coordination and executive oversight of the development and continual improvement of the District’s curricular and instructional programs.
“Johnston welcomes Carol Eddy’s extensive experience in educational administration right here in the metro area,” said Superintendent Dr. Nikki Roorda. “That experience coupled with her prioritization of collaboration and interpersonal connections will make her a great addition to our team.”
In the 2025-2026 school year, Eddy will be one of six members of the JCSD Cabinet along with Superintendent Dr. Nikki Roorda, Associate Superintendent Jill Van Woerkom, Executive Director of School Leadership Chris Billings, Chief Financial Officer Ryan Eidhal and Executive Director of Human Resources Dr. Nate Zittergruen.
