Johnston kicks off online ticketing for games, increased focus on sportsmanship
JOHNSTON, Ia. (August 15, 2022) — The Johnston Community School District will in 2022-23 begin offering the option to purchase online tickets for all Johnston home athletic events for grades 8-12.
This option will be available for all upcoming athletic events including volleyball matches, cross country invitationals and football games, including the first home football game on Friday, Sept. 2.
“The reason for the move is to ensure the safety of our game personnel as well as to increase the fan experience by limiting time waiting in line to enter events,” said Mike O’Connor, Johnston’s new athletics and activities director. “Online ticketing is something that you will experience more this coming year as several Central Iowa Metropolitan League (CIML) schools will be utilizing this platform.”
How to purchase online tickets
To purchase online tickets, spectators will have three options. Option 1 is the quickest way to purchase. Families and fans are encouraged to bookmark this site on their devices.
Option 1: The CIML tickets website
- Visit cimltickets.com
- Click on the Johnston Dragons logo to get tickets to our home games.
- To purchase tickets for away games in central Iowa, click on that host school’s logo on this CIML tickets web page.
Option 2: The JCSD website
- Visit johnstoncsd.org
- Hover over “Programs” and click “Activities & Athletics”
- Hover over “Fans” and click “Purchase tickets”
- Scan the QR code at home or at the gate and follow the necessary steps.
A cash option will still be available to purchase tickets at Johnston home games this year. However, the goal is to move to 100% online in the 2023-24 school year. Urbandale, Waukee, Waukee NW and Dowling will all be cashless this year.
Focus on sportsmanship
Sportsmanship has always been important at school activities and athletic games, but the Johnston Community School District is making sportsmanship a point of emphasis at athletic events and other school-sponsored activities this school year.
This emphasis in 2022-23 comes in collaboration with the Iowa High School Athletic Association, Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and Central Iowa Metropolitan League.
The Johnston Community School District requests your cooperation by supporting participants and officials in a positive manner. Profanity, racial, sexist, or abusive comments or intimidating actions directed at officials, participants, coaches, team representatives, or event personnel will not be tolerated and are grounds for removal from the venue.
With this emphasis, you may see a difference this year in videos, announcements, signage and removal of unruly fans. In addition, consumption or possession of alcoholic beverages is prohibited, as is smoking on the campus of Johnston High School. We thank you for your cooperation and invite you to enjoy the game.
