Busch named Johnston’s new Student Services Coordinator
JOHNSTON, IA. (May 26, 2022) — Adam Busch has been selected as the Johnston Community School District’s student services coordinator, a new position created by a reorganization of the district’s leadership.
Busch will begin his new role July 1. He has served as an associate principal in Ankeny for the past six years. Before that, he worked as an assistant principal and activities director in Saydel for five years.
“I believe that my ability to focus on data to drive decisions is an attribute that helps me to be successful in leading students and adults to greater achievements,” he said. “An opportunity to lead student services for the Johnston Community School District is a perfect fit for that next step of my career.”
As Johnston’s new student services coordinator, Busch will assist with special education programming and will coordinate services for ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), ELP (Extended Learning Program), school nurses, ChildServe, Ellipsis and 504 (education plans for students with disabilities).
Prior to his work as an associate principal, Busch worked as a teacher and coach at Bondurant-Farrar, Norwalk and Waterloo. He’s taught physical education, math and social studies, and has coached football, baseball and track.
“Adam’s experience as a school administrator, teacher and coach will help our district provide the best possible service to students of all abilities,” said JCSD Superintendent Laura Kacer. “His proven ability to problem-solve by incorporating stakeholders should serve him well in working with school nurses, instructional coaches, teacher coordinators and other staff members here in Johnston.”
In his new role, Busch will be part of the Johnston Community School District’s administrative team. Creation of the role came following the departure of Joy Wiebers, the Executive Director of Student Services, who has accepted a job as regional director for Region 5 of Heartland Area Education Agency. Chris Wilson was also hired as the district’s new Director of SEBMH (Social-Emotional, Behavior, Mental Health) as part of the reorganization.
Busch’s selection as student services coordinator is expected to go before the Johnston Board of Education as early as June 13.
