JCSD Staff, Students No Longer Required to Wear Masks
The following message was sent to staff, students, and families on Thursday, May 20.
Late last night, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed a new law into effect that prohibits school districts from requiring facial coverings to be worn, unless otherwise required by law to do so. This includes a student’s time on the school bus, if applicable. Effectively immediately, face coverings will be optional in JCSD buildings for staff and students.
The new law comes in conjunction with updated guidance from the Iowa Department of Public Health that was released last week recommending that mask wearing be optional. Guidance from the CDC recommends that individuals who have not been vaccinated continue to wear masks indoors. Additionally, it is still vitally important that any students or staff members who are feeling ill, stay home.
As we enter the final weeks of an unprecedented school year, we are thankful for the tremendous support and flexibility shown by our students, staff and families this year. Our success has been possible because of everyone’s willingness to adjust to changing guidelines and work together.
Thank you,
Ms. Laura Kacer, JCSD Superintendent
