Winter Student-Athletes Excel in Academics

Johnston Wrestling The Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Union & The Iowa High School Athletic Association recognizes those teams and cheerleading squads which collectively have excelled in the classroom. Each student-athlete on the team will receive a certificate for their personal accomplishment, and the achievement will go on record at the respective associations.

There are two awards which may be earned:

  • Excellence in Academic Achievement Award
    • This award will be given to teams achieving a combined grade point average of 3.0-3.24.
  • Distinguished in Academic Achievement Award
    • This award will be given to teams achieving a combined grade point average of 3.25 and above.

Congratulations to:

  • Varsity Boys Basketball, earning a team cumulative GPA of 3.528 and receiving the Distinguished in Academic Achievement Award
  • Varsity Girls Basketball, earning a team cumulative GPA of 3.686 and receiving the Distinguished in Academic Achievement Award
  • Varsity Girls Bowling, earning a team cumulative GPA of 3.715 and receiving the Distinguished in Academic Achievement Award
  • Varsity Boys Swimming, earning a team cumulative GPA of 3.4833 and receiving the Distinguished in Academic Achievement Award
  • Varsity Wrestling, earning a team cumulative GPA of 3.1387 and receiving the Excellence in Academic Achievement Award
  • Varsity Basketball Cheerleading, earning a team cumulative GPA of 3.0396 and receiving the Excellence in Academic Achievement Award
  • Varsity Wrestling Cheerleading, earning a team cumulative GPA of 3.0820 and receiving the Excellence in Academic Achievement Award
