Board Approves Continuation of Temporary Online Learning Waiver Thru Dec. 13

At the November 23 board meeting, the board approved continuation of the Johnston CSD temporary online learning waiver, due to high COVID-19 positivity rates in Polk Co. and high numbers of staff absences due to illness or quarantine. Extending the Temporary Online Learning Waiver

We have applied for the waiver with the Iowa Department of Education and it was approved. The waiver will go into effect Monday, November 30 for 14 calendar days, bringing us to Sunday, Dec. 13. The implication for an approved waiver would include:

• Keeps students in the virtual learning model through Friday, Dec. 11
• This would suspend all extracurriculars while in the remote learning model
• At the Dec. 7 board meeting, metrics will be reviewed for a decision on a learning model after Dec. 13
