Dragon Round Up – Weekend of 2/21
Johnston students had quite a weekend! Congratulations to our student athletes and performers for their achievements over the weekend of February 21. *All attempts are made to be as accurate and inclusive as possible.
State Wrestling
Owen Helgeson (9th grade): Fifth place; 106 lbs
James Edwards (12th grade): Fourth place; 126 lbs
Thomas Edwards (12th grade): Fourth place; 138 lbs
Caleb Helgeson (11th grade): Third place; 160 lbs
Johnston finished 8th as a team.
Girls Basketball
The Lady Dragons had a 65-19 win over Marshalltown on Friday night in the regional semi-finals. The girls will take on Council Bluffs Lincoln, at Johnston on Tuesday night, 7 pm. The winner of that game will head to the state tournament.
Boys Basketball
The Dragons added another win to their record with a 61-49 victory over DM Roosevelt on Friday night. The Dragons will host the Regional semi-final on Feb. 28, 7 pm, in Johnston vs the winner of the 2/24 game between Indianola and DSM East.
Show Choir
Innovation performed at the Hastings Swingin’ On the River competition over the weekend and brought home the Runner-Up title, as well as Best Vocals.
Synergy also performed at Hastings and won Prep Division Grand Champion, best crew in the prep division, and Marcus Anderson was name best mal vocalist in the prep division.
Sound Advice and Impact competed in Indianola over the weekend. On Friday night, Impact had a winning performance! Sound Advice brought home first place in the prep division, with outstanding soloists awards going to Renee Johnson, Taevian Pope, Soren Green, Kenna Riddle, Alex Williamson!
