McAlister Named CIS Featured Soloist

JHS Junior Kate McAlister

Over the weekend, Johnston High School junior Kate McAlister participated in the Young Artist Competition with the Central Iowa Symphony.

As part of the competition, she memorized and performed a trumpet concerto for a panel of auditors and was selected the winner of the competition! She will be the featured soloist with the Central Iowa Symphony on their concert Sunday, March 1^st at 3:00 PM in Ames. It is a huge honor to be selected for something like this!

Kate is a member of the Wind Symphony, Jazz Syndicate, the Draggin’ Brass Quintet, and she’s a three-year participant in the All-State Music Festival. Her parents are Ben and Kelly McAlister and she has a brother Sam in 8^th Grade. Congratulations, Kate!
