Community Stage Makes its Debut at Horizon Elementary First Grade Classrooms
Earlier this year, Mrs. Becky Heikes submitted a grant request on behalf of all Horizon Elementary first grade teachers, for a community stage to the Johnston Community School Foundation. A small theatre-like stage was requested to help meet Common Core speaking and listening standards. In addition, a community stage would provide a safe space for students to share their thoughts, ideas, reading skills, and building confidence and self-esteem.
The Johnston Community School Foundation and the Johnston High School Industrial Arts program partnered together to design, construct, and paint a “pint-sized” stage, perfect for the first graders.
The finished community stage was presented to all Horizon Elementary first graders on March 1, 2019, to align with Biography Day, where students had the chance to meet the likes of Abraham Lincoln, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and more!
Thank you to the Johnston Community School Foundation and the Johnston High School Industrial Arts program for making this possible.
