Officer Townes Will Serve as the School Resource Officer at Johnston Middle School

The Johnston Police Department is pleased to announce that Police Officer Bryan Townes will begin as the School Resource Officer (SRO) at Johnston Middle School in January.

Officer Townes will serve as a positive role model and assist with situations that may arise on school property. His first day will be January 3, 2018.

“Officer Townes is a great officer and role model,” said Police Chief Dennis McDaniel. “I am confident Bryan will do well in this position because he enjoys being around children and making a positive impact. He already has a great relationship with the students at Wallace Elementary through the Adopt-A-School program and being able to take this interaction to the students at the middle school is something he will certainly excel at. Officer Townes is the type of officer who will be able to get kids to respond to him while gaining respect from the students. He is the perfect officer for this role and we look forward to seeing him succeed in this position.”

Officer Townes has been a member of the Johnston Police Department since 1990. He was hired part-time and two years later after graduating from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy he became a full-time officer. During his 27 years, Townes has worked as a Patrol Officer, Firearms Instructor and Armorer. He was also a Task Force Agent with Mid-Iowa Narcotics Enforcement (M.I.N.E) and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

“I look forward to working with teachers, parents and students to ensure a safe and fun learning environment,” said Officer Townes. “I have created a strong connection with the students at Wallace Elementary, so I hope to continue fostering those relationships when possible. This position will be a rewarding one because I will be able to help guide students, while positively impacting their life and helping them create a healthy future.”
