Ross Inducted to IHSADA Hall of Fame
Long-time Johnston athletic and activities director Gary Ross has been inducted into the Iowa High School Athletic Director’s Association Hall of Fame. He is one of two athletic directors receiving the honor this year.
Ross was hired as the JCSD athletic and activities director in 1995 and worked tirelessly to build the athletic and activity programs in Johnston. As student enrollments have grown, so has participation in the district’s multitude of sports, fine arts, and clubs. Ross played a large role in managing these programs as well as upgrading the facilities used by students and coaches for competition.
Additionally, Ross was active in the Iowa High School Athletic Director’s Association, serving in a variety of roles and receiving accolades for his work, including NIAAA State Award of Merit, Chair of the IHSAA Board of Control, and State Athletic Director of the Year. Ross is a graduate of Wartburg College and holds a master’s degree in Education Administration and Supervision-Secondary Principalship from the University of Northern Iowa.
In July 2017, he accepted a new position as the Associate Director of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Association. As part of his Hall of Fame award, he will be recognized at the annual IHSADA State Convention, March 24 – 27. The Hall of Fame will be presented at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, March 26 at the Marriott in Coralville. Congratulations, Mr. Ross!
