The Professional Leadership Award is the highest honor the state association can bestow upon a member and serves as recognition of school business officials who have demonstrated excellence in service to their school district, communities, and profession. Criteria considered when selecting the award recipient include an individual’s leadership in the schools, leadership in the profession, a demonstrated interest in continued school finance professional development, and their leadership within the community.

Miller-Hook has served as the head of the district’s business and finance department for 10 years. Prior K-12 experience includes serving as the Urbandale Schools CFO for one year and Executive Director of Business Services at West Des Moines Schools for four years. Other experience includes higher education administrator, bank auditor, and district magistrate. She has been the IASBO president, a conference session presenter, and regularly participates in specialty study and research committees. She is also a member of numerous state groups focused on school business and finance.

As part of the award, the Miller-Hook will receive a plaque for her office, complimentary invitation to next year’s ASBO Leadership Conference, and reimbursement for ASBO International conference expenses. A $1,000 IASBO scholarship will also be awarded to a Johnston High School graduating senior, with preference given to a student entering an education or business course of study.

“Ms. Miller-Hook is an engaged and invested team member looking to help colleagues in many other arenas the best that she can,” said JCSD Superintendent Corey Lunn. “The result of these efforts is that Jan is seen as a trusted mentor, colleague and friend of many across the school district. Jan is a top-notch and exceptional school administrator.”
