Become a Part of Dragon History
Members of the public and Johnston alumni have two unique opportunities play a part in the history of the new Johnston High School Athletic Complex.
As more finishing touches are being done around campus, patrons can donate a tree for placement around the stadium complex and/or purchase a personalized brick that will be placed in the activity and athletic areas at the new high school.
“We are pleased to have two different ways for people and businesses to show their support for the new high school project and Johnston schools,” said Corey Lunn, JCSD Superintendent. “Both the trees and bricks will be permanent parts of the school’s history.
Up to 31 trees will be planted – five Greencolumn Maple, six Shademaster Honeylocust, five American Sentry Linden, and 15 Eastern White Pine. So far, 15 trees have been donated. The donation amount varies depending on the type of tree selected. Tree donors will be acknowledged on signage located near the entrance to the stadium.
UPDATE – Only six trees are left, all Eastern White Pines.
The available number of bricks is yet to be determined as design plans are finalized. The individual bricks will be approximately 8”x8” with a maximum of six lines of lettering. The suggested donation is $300.00 per brick. The Johnston Booster Club will be handling the sale of the bricks.
Anyone interested in donating a tree or brick can learn more by contacting the district office at 515-278-0470.
“As guests visit the stadium and activity areas at the high school, they’ll see the brick design and beautiful trees, lining the stadium area,” Lunn said. “We’re so proud of these facilities and thankful to those who have donated to truly make it a place of Dragon pride.”
