In the Johnston Community School District, we give much credit to the building blocks our founders laid more than 100 years ago – it has built a district of reputable excellence. And while much learning occurs beyond the walls of the classrooms and schools, we are proud of the outstanding, modern facilities that house our students, staff, and administrators in the district.

	The Johnston Early Learning Academy serves students ages 2-4 years old. Prior to 2018, the preschool classes were spread throughout the district, but in 2018 JELA opened to house all preschool ages under one roof. Their new facility features natural light in all classrooms, community spaces, an indoor playscape, and abundant space outdoors for play and learning.

	Built in 1997, the school includes various instructional classrooms, two art rooms, vocal/band rooms, computer lab, library media center, storytelling area, cafeteria, and full-size gym.

	The school, built in 1958 and expanded in 1961, 1998, and 2011, includes various instructional classrooms, two art rooms, vocal/band rooms, computer lab, library media center, cafeteria, and full-size gym.

	The school, built in 2007 and expanded in 2013, includes various instructional classrooms, two art rooms, vocal/band rooms, computer lab, library media center, storytelling area, cafeteria, and full-size gym.

	The original Wallace Elementary was built in 1988 and expanded in 1990. In July 2018, it moved into a renovated and beautiful new space in the former Johnston Middle School. The new Wallace features large studio classroom space with abundant natural light throughout the building. There are art rooms, music spaces, a large auditorium, computer labs, media center, and two gyms for students to enjoy.

	The school, built in 2004 and expanded in 2012, includes various instructional classrooms, full-size gymnasium, swimming pool, library media center, cafeteria, industrial technology room, computer lab, family & consumer science (home economics) room, art/graphic design rooms, one vocal room, digital communications room, and a band room.

	The original JMS was built in 1985 and expanded in 1991 and 2007. In 2017, the staff and students moved into the former Johnston High School to accomodate growing student populations. The space includes various instructional classrooms, library media center, cafeteria and serving area, two gymnasiums, art rooms, industrial technology rooms, family & consumer science (home economics) room, 600-seat auditorium, computer labs, vocal room, band room, athletic office, and wellness center.

	The original JHS was built in 1973 and expanded in 1978, 1994, and 2008. In 2017, construction on the new Johnston High School completed and staff and students moved into a brand-new, state-of-the-art learning facility located at 6500 NW 100th St. It is 369,000 finished square feet, making it one of the largest high schools in the state of Iowa, with a capacity of 1,800 students. There are 48 general education classrooms, 12 science labs, 20 related arts classrooms, a 1,200-seat auditorium with fly loft and orchestra pit, 2,500-seat field house with three gyms, a 5,600-seat outdoor stadium, and athletic complex.

	Johnston Community Education serves as a partnership between the Johnston Community School District and City of Johnston, and aims to provide educational, enriching, and athletic opportunities for all community members. Community Education offers affordable enrichment, fitness, and sport classes for youths and adults – in addition to before and after child care at the elementary (K-5) and middle (6-7) levels, preschool for ages 2-3, and aquatic programs.

	Providing safe, reliable transportation to and from school is a critical part of the school day. The Johnston Community School District is pleased to partner with Student Transportation of America (STA) to offer bus ridership to students in the district’s boundaries. 	Outdoor Facilities
	Facilities include the Johnston stadium, located at 6501 NW 62nd Ave., with an eight-lane all-weather track, softball and baseball fields, eight tennis courts, outdoor basketball court, and open play areas. The Dragon Stadium is located at Johnston High School and features a 5,600-seat stadium, synthetic field, team building, entry building, home/visitor concessions, and restrooms, and an 8-lane track. Each elementary has outdoor play equipment and open space for various sports.
